Islamabad, Pakistan, March 5, 2024,<\/strong> The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United Nations Children\u2019s Fund<\/a> (UNICEF) have joined forces, signing a Letter of Understanding (LOU) to collaborate on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and solid waste management interventions. The initiative, funded by ADB, targets the cities of Rawalpindi and Bahawalpur in Punjab province, Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yong Ye, ADB Country Director for Pakistan, and Abdullah Fadil, UNICEF\u2019s Representative in Pakistan, inked the agreement at UNICEF\u2019s office in Islamabad. The collaboration, under the Developing Resilient Environments and Advancing Municipal Services (DREAMS) Project, aims to strengthen policy, legislative frameworks, and institutional capacity for improved urban services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative targets the cities of Rawalpindi and Bahawalpur in Punjab province and aims to benefit up to 1.5 million urban dwellers.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This strategic partnership will leverage public awareness campaigns to enhance behaviours related to water, sanitation, and solid waste management. It is anticipated to benefit up to 1.5 million urban dwellers in Punjab, fostering inclusive, resilient, and sustainable urban infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
