This hearing was fixed after show-cause notices were issued to PPA and eight other entities for cartelization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The CCP&#8217;s investigation revealed <em>prima facie<\/em> collusion and price fixing of day-old broiler chicks by a suspected cartel of eight hatcheries from 2019 to June 2021. These entities include <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hitechgroup.pk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hitech Group<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/islamabadgroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Islamabad Group of Companies<\/a>, Olympia Group, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jadeedgroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jadeed Group<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seasonsgroup.com.pk\/supreme-farms-pvt-ltd\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Supreme Farms (Season\u2019s Foods)<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bigbirdgroup.com.pk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Big Bird Group<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabirsgroup.com\/sabirs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sabirs\u2019 Group.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The enquiry was initiated following a surge in prices and complaints from broiler farmers through the Pakistan Citizens Portal, alleging cartelization in the sector. Subsequently, search and inspections were conducted at the premises of PPA and forensic analysis of the evidence uncovered that an official of one of the member firms played a central role in the cartel by coordinating mutually agreed prices of day-old broiler chicks. These rates were communicated daily to other hatcheries and PPA through #SMS and #WhatsApp, with pricing discussions also conducted through these mediums.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/vetnewsandviews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/CCP-Hearing-on-Collusive-Practices-of-Poultry-Companies.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3597\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vetnewsandviews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/CCP-Hearing-on-Collusive-Practices-of-Poultry-Companies.jpg 780w, https:\/\/vetnewsandviews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/CCP-Hearing-on-Collusive-Practices-of-Poultry-Companies-300x185.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vetnewsandviews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/CCP-Hearing-on-Collusive-Practices-of-Poultry-Companies-768x473.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The enquiry also found PPA in <em>prima facie<\/em> violation of Section 4 of the Act, as its official was involved in the pricing discussions and announcements. <strong>The general principle is that if price-sensitive information is being discussed, an undertaking\/trade association must be seen as distancing itself from collusive practices.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-vivid-red-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-4c096a8d86d0040b1005d42733a07324 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Most of the hatcheries involved in the suspected cartel are also vertically integrated and engaged in the entire poultry supply chain, from breeding to the production of broiler chicken including poultry feed and eggs production.
