International Symposium on Antimicrobial Resistance at UAF

The Faculty of Veterinary Science at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) hosted an esteemed International Symposium on Antimicrobial Use and Resistance in Food Animals. The event featured prominent experts from Germany and Pakistan, addressing critical issues surrounding antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and its global implications.

Prof. Dr. Lothar Kreienbrock from the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Germany, delivered an insightful presentation on the One-Health “Y-Model” approach to preventing AMR. He emphasized the significance of hospital hygiene, biosecurity, antibiotic stewardship, and disease prevention as key factors in mitigating antimicrobial resistance. His discussion underscored the need for a multidisciplinary strategy to tackle AMR effectively.

Adding to the discourse, Dr. Sandra Brogden from the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Germany, presented on the “Monitoring of Antimicrobial Usage in Animals through an International Database: Introduction of Vet CAB-ID.” She highlighted the importance of data-driven monitoring systems in ensuring the responsible use of antimicrobials in livestock. Her insights reinforced the role of international databases in controlling AMR and shaping effective policies for antimicrobial stewardship.

The symposium provided a platform for experts to share knowledge and discuss pressing challenges in antimicrobial usage and surveillance. Participants explored global perspectives on antimicrobial resistance, livestock management, and sustainable solutions for AMR control.

The event, organized by UAF’s Faculty of Veterinary Science, served as a significant step toward fostering international collaboration in the fight against antimicrobial resistance. The exchange of expertise between German and Pakistani scholars contributed to developing strategic solutions for responsible antimicrobial usage in food animals, ensuring a healthier and safer future for all.
