Jin Shao, Manager of the International Department at Anhui SunGu Agritech Co. Ltd, said the company has been active in Pakistan for over 12 years and already collaborates with several local partners. He explained that the company’s next phase of growth will prioritise deeper localisation, including breeding and seed production within Pakistan, which he described as essential for long-term development.

According to Jin, Anhui SunGu Agritech is involved in a broad range of seed businesses in Pakistan, including hybrid rice, maize, sunflower, canola and vegetable seeds. The company works with partners of various scales, ranging from large importers to smaller firms, and offers equal support when partnerships are based on transparency, trust and long-term commitment.

He noted that the company brings advanced Chinese breeding technologies that outperform older local seed varieties, helping farmers improve productivity. Higher yields, he said, enable farmers to earn better incomes, support agricultural exports and generate wider benefits for Pakistan’s agricultural economy.

Jin described the cooperation between China and Pakistan as a mutually beneficial value chain, where Chinese seed technology enhances local production while Pakistani agricultural exports help strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

He emphasised that agriculture remains a cornerstone of Pakistan’s economy, adding that improved seed varieties can raise living standards by increasing the availability of vegetables and other crops. He said higher yields achieved through efficient input use can also help make essential food items more affordable for consumers.

In addition to seed development, Jin said the company is working to improve edible oil quality through canola cultivation and processing, describing this as another important area of cooperation progressing at different stages.

He pointed out that Pakistan’s policy direction encourages local industrial development rather than pure trading, prompting the company to seek partners willing to invest jointly over the long term and share risks. While acknowledging that many businesses prefer quick returns, Jin said China’s experience shows that gradual, step-by-step growth delivers more sustainable outcomes.

Jin added that the company follows a mixed approach to seed supply, producing some varieties locally in Pakistan while sourcing others from China, depending on suitability and maturity. Under Pakistan’s updated seed regulations, he said the company aims to balance local production and imports, reflecting its commitment to localisation and regulatory compliance.

He concluded that Anhui SunGu Agritech remains focused on gradual expansion, deeper localisation and long-term cooperation as it strengthens its presence in Pakistan’s agricultural sector. He described the recently held Pakistan-China Agriculture Investment Conference in Islamabad as a positive starting point for deeper collaboration, while stressing the importance of careful partner selection to ensure sustainable and lasting outcomes.
