Fongrow Welcomes 200+ Elite Brazilian Breeds – Boosting Pakistan’s Cattle Genetics

The Fongrow Breed Improvement Research Center, an ambitious project under the Fauji Foundation, is quickly becoming a model for livestock genetic enhancement in Pakistan. Located across a vast 5,600-acre site, the center is dedicated to advancing the quality and productivity of local breeds.

Currently overseen by Major General Muhammad Yousaf Majoka HI (M) MD CEO FonGrow, this flagship initiative comprises three integrated components:

Angus, Gir, Girolando, Red Sindhi, Nelore, Painted Gir, Brahman, Mauzerat Cow, Mithun Cow, and others.

  • A modern Livestock Farm

  • A state-of-the-art Semen Production Unit (SPU) led by Dr. Aashiq

  • An advanced IVF Facility to support genetic improvement

In March 2024, more than 200 elite animals were imported from Brazil, including top-tier breeds such as Angus, Gir, Girolando, Red Sindhi, Nelore, Painted Gir, Brahman, Mauzerat Cow, and Mithun Cow. The quarantine process was managed in partnership with Happy Cattle Dairy Farm at Sibje, Okara.

This initiative highlights Pakistan’s growing commitment to sustainable livestock development, breed conservation, and enhanced productivity through scientific approaches.
