Livestock production enhancement involves improvement in animal health, genetic potential, nutrition and marketing practices to get increased quantity and quality of livestock products like meat, milk and egg and increased profitability.
Improvement in genetic potential of animals is brought through modern technologies like artificial insemination of female with sexed semen and embryo transfer. Semen and embryos of high yielding animals are used to get high yielding progeny.
Better nutrition revolves around provision of balanced diet to get optimum growth and production of animals. Supply of good quality fodder and provision of supplements and concentrates to cover any deficiency is the bases of balanced diet. Plan must be according to different age groups and production stage. Diet for dairy animals is different from those kept for meat or wool purposes.
Prevention is better than cure. So, livestock farmers must go for immunization of their animals. It is cost effective way to ensure good health. There are multiple types of vaccines. Choose the vaccine type with minimum stress and maximum immunization.
In case of non-availability of vaccine, early diagnosis of disease and quick treatment must be followed. It decreases the damage and production losses. Modern ways of diagnosis like instrumental aids i.e. ultrasonography and screening tests i.e. culture sensitivity test help the early diagnosis and better treatment.

Stress management is provision of optimum conditions like shelter, space, ventilation, temperature and water etc. for maximum production under minimum stress. All feed and supplements are used for production instead of wastage of energy for stress management. Animals should be provided with proper space according to body size and movement and bedding for rest.
