The move is aimed at promoting affordable and environmentally friendly transport, particularly for students, daily-wage earners, and low-income commuters who rely heavily on motorcycles for mobility.

Rs. 80,000 Subsidy Per Motorcycle

Under the scheme, eligible citizens will receive a subsidy of Rs. 80,000 per electric motorcycle. This financial support is expected to significantly reduce the upfront cost, making electric bikes more accessible to the general public.

According to Hammad Mansoor, CEO of the Engineering Development Board, the federal government has allocated Rs. 100 billion for the next five years to support electric vehicle adoption. For the current fiscal year alone, Rs. 9 billion has been earmarked for implementation.

He further stated that approximately 116,000 electric motorcycles will receive subsidies this year, while 76,000 units are scheduled for delivery by June.

Lower Cost, Higher Savings

Officials claim that subsidized electric motorcycles will cost Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 60,000 less compared to existing market brands. In addition to the lower purchase price, users are expected to save up to Rs. 8,000 per month on fuel expenses.

The initiative is part of a broader national strategy to reduce fuel imports, cut carbon emissions, and encourage sustainable transportation.

Digital and Transparent Allocation

To ensure transparency and merit-based selection, the entire process will be fully digital and automated. Applications, approvals, and allocations will be handled through an online system to minimize human intervention and ensure fair distribution.
