This article explores the multifaceted impact of animal protein on women’s holistic development, encompassing aspects of physical health, cognitive function, career advancement, and overall well-being.
Animal proteins provide essential nutrients such as complete proteins, iron, zinc, vitamin B12, Vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids, all of which are crucial for maintaining optimal health. Malnutrition is rampant among women, children, and adolescents in Pakistan. Mostly women found deficient in micronutrients like zinc, iron, iodine, vitamin D and Vitamin A. According to reports, 63% of Pakistan’s female population is vitamin D deficient, and 47% have inadequate levels of vitamin D. Animal protein plays a vital role in providing these essential nutrients for maintaining muscle mass, bone density, and healthy skin, thereby promoting physical strength and vitality. By preventing nutritional deficiencies and associated health issues, a well-balanced diet rich in animal protein enhances women’s overall health and resilience to illness.
Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin B12, from fish, eggs and dairy products are essential for brain health and cognitive function. Consuming a diet abundant in animal protein may support mental clarity, concentration, and memory, all of which are indispensable for professional development and effective decision-making.
Animal protein-rich foods provide sustained energy levels and help regulate blood sugar, thereby reducing fatigue and enhancing productivity. This is particularly pertinent for women engaged in demanding professional roles requiring high levels of energy and mental focus.
Furthermore, animal protein is indispensable for supporting an active lifestyle, including participation in sports, physical fitness activities, and strenuous professional endeavours. Protein aids in muscle repair and recovery post-exercise, enabling women to maintain strength, endurance, and resilience.
Animal protein also serve as livelihood opportunity for women as in many communities, women are actively involved in livestock rearing, poultry farming, and other animal-related livelihood activities. These activities not only contribute to household income and economic stability but also provide opportunities for entrepreneurship and income generation, thereby empowering women economically and socially.
Animal protein-rich foods often hold cultural and social significance, being central to traditional diets and culinary practices. Sharing meals centred around animal protein-rich dishes fosters social connections, strengthens relationships, and contributes to women’s emotional well-being and social support networks.
In conclusion, the inclusion of animal protein in women’s diets plays a pivotal role in supporting their physical health, cognitive function, energy levels, and overall well-being, thereby facilitating their personal and professional development. Furthermore, women’s involvement in animal-related livelihood activities can empower them economically and socially, enhancing their opportunities for growth and advancement in various spheres of life.
