According to Global Times News Agency Europe, Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, addressed the National Tourism Dialogue held during Pakistan Travel Mart 2026 and highlighted Pakistan’s rising global stature due to its proactive diplomacy and constructive role in recent regional developments, including the Iran US situation.

Speaking at a local hotel in Islamabad, the Chairman Senate emphasized that tourism has the potential to significantly boost Pakistan’s economy, improve its global perception, and strengthen national unity.
Gilani appreciated the efforts of Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, Prime Minister’s National Coordinator for Tourism, for successfully organizing the dialogue and promoting Pakistan’s tourism sector. He noted that the theme of PTM 2026, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and global connectivity, reflects Pakistan’s commitment to modern tourism trends.
Highlighting the importance of public private partnerships, he described PTM as a strong model of collaboration between government and private stakeholders. He stressed that such cooperation is essential to attract investment, encourage innovation, and ensure sustainable growth in the tourism industry.
The Chairman Senate underlined Pakistan’s immense tourism potential, pointing to its rich heritage and diverse landscapes. He referenced historical sites such as Mohenjo daro, Mehrgarh, the Indus Valley Civilization, and Gandhara civilization as key attractions for international visitors. He also emphasized Pakistan’s natural beauty, including mountains, valleys, and scenic destinations that can draw global tourists.
Sharing his personal connection with Multan, Gilani highlighted its spiritual importance as the City of Saints and noted that Pakistan’s Sufi traditions promote peace, tolerance, and harmony. He remarked that Pakistan offers not just tourism but a meaningful cultural experience.
He further stated that tourism contributes significantly to economic growth through foreign exchange earnings, job creation, and infrastructure development. Recalling his tenure as Prime Minister, he mentioned past efforts to improve connectivity and promote Pakistan internationally, adding that PTM continues that vision.
The Chairman Senate also highlighted that PTM 2026 is presenting several investment ready tourism projects developed with the support of the Special Investment Facilitation Council, reflecting Pakistan’s commitment to attracting both local and foreign investment.
He welcomed international delegates from Azerbaijan, Malaysia, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the United Kingdom, and other countries, stating that their participation reflects growing global confidence in Pakistan’s tourism sector.
Concluding his address, Gilani congratulated the organizers and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting policies and legislation aimed at promoting tourism and positioning Pakistan as a leading global destination. On the occasion, Member Provincial Assembly Punjab Syed Ali Haider Gillani and Advisor to Chairman Senate Ms Misbah Khar were also present.
