Prof. Dr. Sher Bahadur Khan Awarded German Patent for Groundbreaking
Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) proudly announces that Prof. Dr. Sher Bahadur Khan has been granted a patent by the German Patent and Trademark Office for his pioneering research titled “A System for Molecular Characterization and Toxoid Development of Clostridium perfringens.” This prestigious recognition underscores a major scientific advancement in the field of veterinary microbiology and vaccine development.
Prof. Dr. Khan’s work offers a novel and efficient system to characterize and neutralize Clostridium perfringens, the bacterium responsible for enterotoxaemia, a highly fatal disease affecting small ruminants such as sheep and goats. His patented system is designed to facilitate the development of an effective toxoid vaccine, which can significantly prevent the onset of enterotoxaemia, thereby saving millions of livestock annually.
This breakthrough holds immense importance, especially for countries like Pakistan, where enterotoxaemia is endemic, as well as for neighboring regions including India, Afghanistan, Iran, and the Middle East. The disease is a major cause of livestock mortality in these regions, leading to billions of rupees in economic losses every year. By offering a solution rooted in local research but recognized internationally.
This achievement not only highlights the world-class research being conducted at AWKUM but also sets a precedent for scientific contributions from Pakistan gaining recognition and protection on the global stage.
