On-Farm Highlights
Better Performance • Lower Death Loss
+8.2%
Higher average laying rate in HASRA group vs. control (Hyline brown layers).
-3.6%
Reduction in death & culling rate in supplemented birds.
Uses of Astragalus in Animal Health
Astragalus polysaccharides (APS) combine multiple biological effects in one natural molecule.
The following functional areas summarise key applications reported in research and field use:
Adapt to Stress
Adaptogenic action helps the body cope with heat, transport and disease stress.
Anti-Inflammatory
Modulates inflammatory pathways and supports faster recovery.
Antioxidant
Scavenges free radicals and protects tissues under oxidative stress.
Immune Support
Strengthens both cellular and humoral immunity in birds and livestock.
↑ White Blood Cells
Supports white blood cell count and immune surveillance.
Antiviral
Induces interferon and enhances defence against viral challenges.
Antibacterial
Contributes to control of bacterial load alongside biosecurity.
Adaptogenic
Overall tonic effect that helps stabilise body functions under pressure.
Performance Results Reported with HASRA
Data shared by Vega from commercial and experimental farms highlight the following
improvements when HASRA was added to feed or water:
Laying Performance
80.7% → 88.9%
Average laying rate increased in Hyline brown layers over 8 weeks (control vs HASRA).
Mortality & Culling
6.7% → 3.2%
Death rate almost halved in the HASRA group compared with control birds.
Immune Organs
↑ Index
Thymus index: 0.51 → 0.58; Bursal index: 0.66 → 0.79 in poultry immune organ studies.
HI Antibody Titer
Higher
Across 15–50 days of age, HASRA birds consistently showed higher NH-HI antibody titers.
Morbidity
↓ Disease
Lower incidence of porcine circovirus disease, digestive and respiratory problems.
Growth & Intake
Stable
Daily gain and feed intake maintained or improved while health indicators improved.

Dosage & Practical Use
HASRA is a water-soluble powder which can be used either via feed or drinking water
in poultry, ruminants and aquaculture.
Poultry
250 g – 500 g per ton of feed
Or 1 g per 4–8 L of drinking water.
Ruminants
500 g – 1,000 g per ton of feed.
Suitable for calves, heifers and adult stock.
Aquaculture
500 g – 1,500 g per ton of feed for fish and shrimp, depending on challenge.
