BOXMEER, The Netherlands, August 18, 2026 (VNV) Hendrix Genetics has acquired 100% of the shares of Portugal-based Pintobar Exploração Avícola, Lda., strengthening its production presence in the Iberian egg and poultry sector and expanding its capacity to serve customers in Portugal, Spain and international export markets.

According to a press release issued by Hendrix Genetics and received by The Veterinary News & Views (VNV), the transaction became effective on July 31, 2026. The company described the acquisition as part of its long-term commitment to the Iberian poultry market.

The transaction builds on a longstanding commercial relationship between Hendrix Genetics and Pintobar. The two companies have worked together for years in supplying egg and poultry producers with genetics and technical support. Hendrix Genetics said bringing Pintobar fully into the group is expected to strengthen operational continuity, customer service and security of supply across the region.

Pintobar brings breeder, hatching egg and hatchery capacity

Founded in 1982, with roots in poultry production extending back to the 1960s, Pintobar operates breeder-rearing facilities, hatching egg production farms and hatcheries. Its operations supply poultry customers in Portugal as well as international markets.

The company has built its business around poultry production, technical expertise and supply reliability, supported by continued investment in production technology and an experienced workforce.

Key transaction background:
Pintobar generates annual revenue of approximately €20 million and employs around 125 people, according to the Hendrix Genetics press release.

Hendrix Genetics said Pintobar’s existing leadership team and employees will remain integral to the business during the integration process, with operations, technical services and product supply continuing without interruption.

Pelayo Casanovas, Managing Director of the Layers & Broilers Business Unit at Hendrix Genetics, described Pintobar as a long-standing and trusted partner and said the acquisition reinforces the company’s commitment to customers across the Iberian region.

He said the combined business would continue investing in people, production and innovation to support the long-term performance of poultry producers.

Eduardo Fraga, General Manager of Pintobar, said joining Hendrix Genetics represents an important next step for the company and creates new opportunities for employees, customers and business partners while preserving the expertise and values developed by Pintobar over several decades.

A broader genetics platform

Hendrix Genetics is a Netherlands-based multi-species animal breeding, genetics and technology company. It was formally established in 2005, while the origins of its wider breeding heritage date back much further.

According to the company’s current corporate information, Hendrix Genetics has more than 2,800 employees and operations in more than 25 countries. Its breeding activities cover laying hens, turkeys, traditional poultry, swine, salmon, trout and shrimp.

The Pintobar transaction therefore adds an established Iberian poultry production platform to a wider international genetics network, particularly strengthening the company’s position in breeder production, hatching eggs and hatchery operations serving the egg and poultry value chain.
